The suspended Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Walter Onnoghen who is standing trial before the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) for non-declaration of his assets has pleaded not guilty to the six-count charge preferred him.
The Tribunal led by Danaldi Umar subsequently granted him bail on self-recognition.
After initially refusing to appear before the CCT, a bench warrant was issued for Onnohgen’s arrest on Thursday. He eventually showed up before the CCT on Friday morning.
Lead council to the embattled CJN, Chris Uche (SAN) also applied for a withdrawal of the arrest warrant issued by the CCT on Onnoghen and his application was granted.
In his ruling, Umar said Onnoghen was discharged of the bench warrant because he voluntarily submitted himself for trial. Umar consequently adjourned the case till March 11, 2109.
