With less than four days left to the Governorship elections in Nigeria, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has delisted the name of the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Enugu State.
Recall that a Federal High Court in Abuja presided over by Hon. Justice I. Ekwo had sacked Senator Ayogu Eze as the governorship candidate of the ruling party in the state.
However, several days after Justice Ekwo ordered INEC to recognize Barr. George Ogara as the APC candidate in Enugu, the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party was yet to obey the order of the court by submitting Ogara’s name to INEC.
Following the development, the electoral umpire has now removed the name of the party’s candidate for Enugu State in its final list released for the March 9 governorship election.
A cursory check on the INEC final list which was signed by its National Secretary, Rose Oriaran-Anthony and published on its website showed that Enugu APC had no gubernatorial candidate.
According to INEC, the decision to delist APC was in obedience to court order as the party was yet to submit a fresh name following Ayogu’s sack.
