The Independent National Electoral Commission has omitted the name of Governor Rochas Okorocha from the list of senators-elect to be presented with their certificates of return this Thursday.
Okorocha contested the Imo West Senatorial District seat on February 23 on the platform of the APC and was declared winner, but the Returning Officer, Prof. Innocent .I. Ibeawuchi said he was declaring the results under duress.
INEC posted on their website moments ago that certificates of return will be issued to senators-elect by 10am and House of representatives-elect by 2pm on Thursday March 14. INEC also added a list of senators-elect and members-elect of the Federal House of Representatives. Governor Rochas Okorochas’s name was conspicuously absent from the list and the reason given was because he was announced winner under duress.
The INEC Chairman, Mahmood Yakubu had said in a meeting last week Thursday that certificates of return would not be issued to winners declared under duress.
