President Muhammadu Buhari says he will retire to Daura, his hometown in Katsina State after the completion of his second term in 2023.
Speaking on Tuesday during a meeting he held with traditional rulers at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, Buhari called on the monarchs to give his administration the needed support to consolidate the fight against corruption and insecurity.
Buhari said: “This is my second and final term, at the end of which I will, God willing, go to Daura and settle down. You know all the families who harbour criminals and you know those who produce respectable individuals.
“You know the weaknesses of our society. We need your support to consolidate our achievements.”
The rulers, who visited him under the aegis of the National Council of Traditional Rulers (NCTR) were led by the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III.
Speaking on behalf of the traditional rulers, the Sultan informed Buhari that they came to congratulate him on his re-election for another term and advised Nigerians to accept the result of the polls as the will of God.
He further stressed that they were in support of President Buhari’s policies and would help to disseminate information on them to the people.
Also speaking at the meeting, the Ooni of Ife, Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi Ojaja II called on the president to listen to the criticisms from the opposition with an open heart as it would enable him run an all inclusive government.
