A Jigawa monarch on Tuesday corroborated the claims by former Vice President and  presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar that his mother hailed from the state.

According to the Cable, the monarch who craved anonymity is a member of the Dutse Emirates Council. He disclosed that Atiku’s mother was the daughter of late Abdullahi from Jigawar Sarki in Jigawa State.

“As a royal father in Jigawa, I don’t want my name to be mentioned because they have politicized the whole issue,” the monarch said.

He added: “However, I can confirm that the late Mrs. Kande (Atiku’s mother) was from Dutse and her uncle, Adamu Ma’aruf was the Chief Imam of Dutse Central Mosque until he died five years after the creation of the state in 1991.”

Recall that the All Progressives Congress (APC), while responding to Atiku’s election petition challenging President Muhammadu Buhari’s victory in the February 23 presidential election claimed that Atiku was not qualified to contest for the presidency.

The ruling party had argued that the former Vice President was born on November 25, 1946 in Jada, Adamawa State which was then in Northern Cameroon.

Reacting to the argument in a statement, Atiku said he was born by a Jigawa mother and a Sokoto father and therefore a Nigerian by birth.
