Umar Daura, the District Head of Daura in Katsina State–the hometown of President Muhammadu Buhari–was on Wednesday kidnapped by four unidentified gunmen.
Reports say the kidnappers stormed Daura’s residence at about 7:00 pm and sporadically shot into the air to scare bystanders who scampered for safety in different directions.
It was gathered that Umar had just returned from the Mosque where he took part in evening prayers, and was sitting in front of his house with some people when the gunmen stormed his residence.
Eyewitnesses say the kidnappers came in a Peugeot 406 saloon car and a Toyota Hilux truck. After Daura’s abduction, the Council Chairman of Daura Local Government Area, Mallam Abba Mato and dozens of sympathizers thronged his residence to discuss the incident.
