The Daura Emirate Council in Katsina State on Monday suspended all the activities which have been lined up to mark next week’s Eid-Fitr celebration in the emirate due to insecurity.
In a statement released by Malam Abdulmumini Salihu, the Danejin Daura, the Emirate said the suspension of Sallah activities was due to the current state of insecurity in parts of the state. including the emirate.
While condemning the kidnap and brutal killing of some innocent citizens of the state, the statement said the Emirate would use the period to commiserate with the government of the state as well as citizens and victims’ families over the unfortunate development.
It added that only two Raka’at Eid prayers would be observed during the day after which marathon prayers and supplication would be conducted to invoke divine intervention over the precarious security challenges in the state and the country at large.
The Council further directed all the 16 district heads, 245 village heads and ward heads to organize and supervise prayers in their areas with a view to achieving lasting peace and stability nationwide.
In recent times, some parts of the state have remained hotbeds of banditry, killings and kidnappings which have claimed several lives and destroyed property running into millions of naira.
Last week, 34 people were murdered in some parts of the state by unknown gunmen, a development which prompted the state government to assent to a law which prescribed capital punishment for kidnapping, cattle rustling and armed robbery.
The District Head of Daura, Alhaji Musa Umar-Uba was recently kidnapped at his residence in Daura by unknown gunmen. Since the incident, no contact has been established with him or his abductors.
