US President Donald Trump on Monday said the United States was not seeking a change of regime in Iran despite mounting tensions.
Speaking after summit talks with Japanese Prime Minister, Shinzo Abe, Trump seemed compelled to douse tensions created by America’s massive military deployments to the Middle East which have placed Iran on target
“We’re not looking for regime change. I just want to make that clear. We’re looking for no nuclear weapons,” Trump said adding that he was not looking to hurt Tehran and believes the two sides could come to a deal.
Washington had last week decided to deploy 1,500 additional troops to the Middle East amid growing friction with Tehran after Trump pulled out of a landmark nuclear deal and later re-instated tough sanctions on the Asian nation.
