The Bauchi State House of Assembly has produced two speakers, one backed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the other supported by the All Progressives congress (APC).
On Thursday morning, it was reported that 11 out of the 31 lawmakers of the Assembly gathered inside the complex by 7 am and elected Hon. Abubakar Suleiman (APC, Ningi Central) as the Speaker of the House.
Danlami Kawule, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) representing Zungur/Galambi constituency was also elected as the Deputy Speaker by the same group of lawmakers.
However in a turn of events, another set of 18 lawmakers conducted a parallel election in front of the assembly complex at about 11 am after they were denied access into the legislative chamber.
The members stood in front of the statue of the mace and elected Kawuwa Damina, a former Speaker in the state’s eighth assembly and a member of the APC as the Speaker of the House through a voice vote.
The ninth assembly inauguration was earlier scheduled to hold by 10 am.
