Nigeria’s Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Adamu has ordered the arrest of Elisha Abbo, the Senator representing Adamawa North Senatorial District in the National Assembly for assaulting a sales girl in Abuja.
The arrest order followed the decision by the Police Force headquarters in Abuja to set up an investigative team to look into the matter. This is even as the Senate has also set up an ad-hoc committee to probe the incident which has received widespread condemnation.
Images of the attack were captured by Close Circuit Television (CCTV) installed in the shop. The images have since gone viral on social media.
Police authorities appear to be embarrassed by the the conduct of the police orderly attached to the senator who did nothing to stop Abbo from severally hitting the lady in the face.
The incident happened in a sex-toy shop in Abuja where the senator had gone to make purchases. The video showed how Senator Abbo slapped the sales girl who is a nursing mother and ordered his police orderly to take her away.
Police sources in Abuja said the investigative team had been able to trace the location of the sex-toy shop with a view to getting a first hand account of what actually transpired from the owners.
It was also gathered that the team has got the details of the police orderly attached to the senator.
Meanwhile, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) police command has also established contact with the victim who only reported the incident to them on Tuesday. She was however asked to report back on Wednesday for further interrogation.
