Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo has said he is taking a leave of absence as the senior pastor of Commonwealth of Zion Assembly (COZA) over the alleged rape allegations levelled against him by Busola, the wife of popular Nigerian singer, Timi Dakolo.
In a post on his Instagram page on Monday morning, Pastor Fatoyinbo announced that he was stepping down from the pulpit in the interest of the flock of Christ.
“The past few days have been very sobering on me. I have taken time to seek spiritual counsel form Christian leaders around the world who feel very concerned about the ongoing report in the media.
“I have solicited their guidance on actions I should take that is honoring to our Lord Jesus Christ and the work he has called me to do.
“Drawing from their counsel and that of the leadership of COZA and owing to my love for Lord’s work and the sacred honor of my calling, I have decided to take a leave of absence from the pulpit of the church.
“Although it will break my heart to tatters to stay a day without doing God’s ministry, I believe it is the right thing to do at this time. It is in the interest of the flock of Christ that issues concerning me do not become a distraction to their worship of their Lord.
“This enables me to concede to the concerns of my spiritual mentors as they consider all the issues that have been raised against me.
“My confidence in the Lord remains unwavering. Though I do not understand all that is happening, I trust in the Lord to lead and guide me one step at a time.
“Kindly pray for me and the congregation of COZA as we seek the face of the Lord during these turbulent times. Thank you and God bless you,” he posted.
Pastor Fatoyinbo’s ‘stepping down’ is coming following the protests and outrage which broke out after Busola alleged that the COZA founder raped her when she was young.
In an interview which was published on YNaija, the mother of three narrated how Fatoyinbo allegedly forced his way into her when she was a teenage member of his church.
