The Federal High Court in Abuja on Wednesday restrained both the Senate and the House of Representatives from taking over the legislative duties of the Edo State House of Assembly.
Justice Taiwo Taiwo gave the order at the resumed hearing in the case instituted by the Edo State government challenging the directive by both chambers of the National Assembly to the state governor, Godwin Obaseki to issue a fresh proclamation for the inauguration of the state’s assembly. Justice Taiwo ordered parties in the case to maintain the status quo pending the determination of the case.
The National Assembly had threatened to take over the legislative duties and powers of the Edo State House of Assembly should Governor Obaseki fail to make the fresh proclamation within three weeks.
