President Muhammadu Buhari has sympathized with the victims of the oil tanker fire incident in Onitsha, Anambra State which happened on Wednesday.
“I am profoundly touched by the sight of the charred remains of an innocent mother and her child who are victims of this tragedy. I also extend my sympathies to other victims of the explosion whose houses, shops and other property were destroyed in the mishap.
“While I express sadness over this tragedy, I must at the same time call for urgent action on the part of those concerned to stem these frequent fatal disasters on public roads,” a statement issued through his Senior Special Assistant, Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu said.
On his own part, the Anambra State Governor, Willie Obiano sympathized with families of all affected victims of the inferno which was caused after a tanker laden with Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) fell into a ditch and spilled its contents.
The Governor directed owners of property affected by the tragic accident to report at the Conference Room of the Secretary to the State Government on Monday, October 21, 2019 to see how the state government can assist them.
Obiano also prayed for the repose of the souls of those who died in the incident, including a woman and her child, adding that the Anambra State Government will assist their families in their burials.
No fewer than 15 persons have been confirmed dead, with over forty buildings and scores of shops torched in the fire which started around 10 am and raged into the night owing to the late arrival of the Fire Service.
