The Federal High Court in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital on Thursday nullified the governorship primary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) which produced Mr. David Lyon as the party’s flag bearer for the November 16 polls.
Ruling in a case filed by Heineken Lokpobiri, one of APC’s governorship aspirants, the court presided over by Justice Jane Inyang declared that the party does not have a governorship candidate in the forthcoming election in the state.
Mr. Lokpobiri, a former Minister of State for Agriculture had approached the court, asking it to declare him and not Lyon as duly elected and the authentic candidate of the APC.
Speaking to reporters shortly after the ruling, Mr. Lokpobiri’s lawyer, Fitzgerald Olorogun said the court pronounced that the governorship primary conducted by the APC was not done in compliance with the guidelines and the constitution of the party.
A visibly shocked Mr. Olorogun added that the court declaration was not part of their pprayer, adding: “We’ll do the needful but for now, the pronouncement of the court is that APC has no candidate.”
Recall that on Tuesday, a Federal High Court in Abuja disqualified Mr. Lyon’s running mate, Biobarakuma Degi-Eremienyo from participating in the election for supplying conflicting information on the documents he presented to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
