The Court of Appeal sitting in Kaduna, Kaduna State on Wednesday nullified the election of the spokesman of the Senate, Senator Dayo Adeyeye as the lawmaker representing Ekiti South Senatorial District in the National Assembly.
Delivering the ruling, Justice Uzor Anyanwu also upheld the tribunal judgment which declared the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Abiodun Olujimi as winner of the February 23 senatorial election.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had declared Adeyeye who contested the election on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) winner of the National Assembly election.
Olujimi approached the elections petitions tribunal to seek a declaration that she had the highest number of votes in the election and urged it to nullify the APC candidate’s victory as a result of irregularities in the electoral process.
The tribunal subsequently nullified elections in some polling units of the senatorial district and declared Olujimi winner.
Adeyeye and the APC however appealed the tribunal ruling at the appellate court which also ordered INEC to issue a certificate of return to Senator Olujimi.
