Edo State governor, Godwin Obaseki has gone into self-isolation over the Coronavirus, COVID-19.
Obaseki said he took the decision to go into isolation following his recent contact with the Bauchi State Governor, Bala Muhammed and the Chief of Staff to President Muhammadu Buhari, Mr Abba Kyari who have both tested positive to the Coronavirus.
This development was disclosed in a statement by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Communication Strategy, Mr. Crusoe Osagie. He disclosed that the governor has sent his samples to the NCDC for testing.
Said Osagie: “The Governor has gone into self-isolation after the Governor of Bauchi State, Senator Bala Mohammed and Chief of Staff to the President, Abba Kyari, tested positive for coronavirus.
“The Governor had met Senator Mohammed at the Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF) and National Economic Council (NEC) meetings. He also visited Mr. Kyari.”
Osagie said that although the Governor has not shown any symptoms of the virus, he took the decision to self-isolate to protect those who may come in contact with him.
However, the Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Hon. Frank Okiye has tested positive to the Coronavirus. This was disclosed in a press briefing by the Deputy Governor, Mr Philip Shaibu.
Shaibu said Okiye had earlier travelled to the United Kingdom and that upon his return, he went into self-isolation. The Deputy Governor also said Okiye is at the moment receiving treatment at the Irrua Specialist Hospital and is in stable conditon.
Shaibu added that Okiye’s family members had been tested and that the test results came back negative.
