United States President, Donald Trump has tested negative for coronavirus. This was disclosed in a statement issued by the White House physician, Sean Conley on Saturday. The doctor also said Trump was tested on Friday.
“This evening I received confirmation that the test is negative. I have been in daily contact with the CDC [Centers for Disease Control and Prevention] and White House Coronavirus Task Force, and we are encouraging the implementation of all their best practices for exposure reduction and transmission mitigation,” the statement said.
Trump chose to take the test after the press secretary to Brazil’s president tested positive for the virus. Trump dined with Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro and his press secretary at Mar-a-Lago. Bolsonaro said on Friday that he had himself tested negative for the virus.
Trump, aged 73, did not self-isolate after that meeting, saying he had no symptoms.
Several members of Congress, including Senator Ted Cruz from Texas have gone into self-isolation after exposure to people with confirmed cases of the virus.
