The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission now has a new Acting Chairman. He is Mr Mohammed Umar who was until now the Head of Operations of the agency.
Umar’s emergence apparently puts to rest speculations by some observers that the Secretary of the Commission, Ola Olukayode would emerge as Acting Chairman since he was the next in hierachy to the embattled Acting Chairman, Ibrahim Magu
Apparently, Olukayode’s emergence would have contradicted the tradition of having a police officer to superintend the activities of the EFCC. Umar is a Deputy Commissioner of Police.
However, it is not yet clear if Umar’s new role is a permanent arrangement or if another Acting Chairman will eventually be appointed by President Muhammadu Buhari.
