Incumbent Governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki had an early lead this Sunday morning as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) began the formal announcement of results of polls conducted across the state on Saturday.
The results of the Edo State governorship election which was held yesterday are currently being announced by the electoral body, INEC. Those which have been released come from 13 local government areas cutting across the three senatorial districts of Edo South, Edo Central and Edo North.
Among 14 candidates vying for the state’s top political seat, the leading contenders are the incumbent, Godwin Obaseki of the Peoples Democratic Party and the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu.
Out of the 13 local government areas, Obaseki of the PDP has clinched 11 while Apc’s Ize-Iyamu has 2.
Five local governments’ results are yet to be released.
The results of the 13 local governments also showed that Obaseki had polled 243,604 votes while Ize-Iyamu had 154,192.
