Erstwhile National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress and former Governor of Edo State, Adams Oshiomhole  apparently put up a good fight to win his local government area, Etsako West for the All Progressives Congress in Saturday’s governorship election in Edo State.

With a charismatic and energetic political opponent in incumbent Deputy Governor of the state, Philip Shaibu, Oshiomhole had a lot at stake in the governorship election.

Shaibu is his blood cousin and former political son who still refers to him as father. Both men transformed into fierce political foes following Oshiomhole’s resolve to show Governor Godwin Obaseki, Shaibu’s principal, the way out of Government House, Benin City.

Political watchers and indeed most Nigerians are unanimous that both men put in every thing to secure the local government area for their parties. They are also unanimous that although Oshiomhole’s All Progressives Congress had Pastor Osaze Ize-Iyamu as its governorship candidate, the real battle in Etsako West was between Oshiomhole and Shaibu.

The results announced this morning show that Shaibu’s former godfather had the upper hand. The APC won 26,140 votes to PDP’s 17,957. Shaibu obviously fought gallantly but the godfafather was to formidable to fall.
