In an attempt to checkmate the spate of insecurity in its domain, Onicha Ado, a community in Onitsha, Anambra State, Saturday, formed the Onicha Ado Vigilante Network, with the launch of operational vehicles to aid their work.
This might not be unconnected with the increasing murder of security operatives by gunmen in the state in recent times.
A naval officer and five policemen were reportedly killed by gunmen at Neni junction in Anaocha Local Government Area of the state, with their security vehicle burnt and guns carted away.
The inauguration had in attendance traditional chiefs.
While speaking, a representative of the new group said they cannot keep waiting for Governor Willie Obiano and ”his much touted but invisible heavy security architecture in the state.”
It was also gathered that Governor Obiano had jetted out to Houston, Texas amidst the rising insecurity in the state.
