The Chadian Army has confirmed the death of the President of Chad, Mr Idriss Deby, The Army said the President succumbed to injuries sustained while actively fighting on the frontline.
Deby, 68, according to a statement broadcast on state television by Army spokesman, General Azem Bermandoa Agouna “has just breathed his last defending the sovereign nation on the battlefield over the weekend,”
The news came a day after Deby won a sixth term in the provisional election whose results were released on Monday. The results showed he had won a sixth term with 79.3% of the total votes cast in the April 11 election.
Deby postponed his victory speech to supporters and went to visit Chadian soldiers on the frontlines, according to his campaign manager.
