Mrs Doris Okechukwu Mbadiwe is the Deputy Managing Director of Inter-Bau Construction Ltd, an award-winning indigenous construction company in Nigeria. Inter-Bau has been in existence for almost four decades and it has delivered notable capital projects such as: The Onitsha River Port Project, Utor Road & Bridge Project and the recently completed Port Harcourt Airport, to mention a few.
Inter-Bau Construction Ltd has received notable awards and recognition such as: Induction into Nigeria’s Construction Industry Hall of Fame 2021, Indigenous Construction Company of the Year, Nigerian Business Leadership Awards 2020. Africa’s Most Outstanding Construction Company of the Year,2019 and West African Gold Quality Building & Civil Engineering Company of the Year 2015, to mention a few.
She is a constructpreneur with over 15 years in the construction industry, a tradeswomen activist, who believes that women should be well represented in all stages of infrastructure delivery in the built environment as women are also the main users and beneficiaries of infrastructure and make up to 50% of the population in Nigeria.
Doris is a member of the Board of Trustees of Inter-Bau Foundation, a non-profit organisation established to train and equip women and youths with practical construction skills such as carpentry, painting, masonry while bridging the gender gap in the construction industry. She also provides mentorship and leadership training and has impacted over 1000 young women through the foundation.
Doris is also the Construction Sector Lead (Nigeria & West Africa), for Women in Infrastructure Community Africa (WICA). WICA is a professional woman advocacy and capacity building platform for sustainable infrastructure in Africa.
On the international scene, she also emerged as a finalist for Women in Construction Leadership in “The Big 5 International Building & Construction Awards” 2021 held in Dubai, UAE.
Her prior working stints include United Nations Development Program (UNDP) Lagos, the prestigious law firm of Ajumogobia & Okeke and Orchard Real Estate Ltd, where she gained valuable knowledge and experience.
Doris is a recipient of the People State Resource (PSR) Woman of Merit Gold National Award 2021, in recognition of her immense contribution to women empowerment and development in Nigeria.
Doris is a member of the following: Green Building Council Nigeria, The Council, Federation Of Construction Industry (FOCI), The Institute of Directors (IOD), Lagos Chamber of Commerce & Industry (LCCI), The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), The Chartered Institute of Project Managers of Nigeria (CIPMN), Amnesty International (AI) and UN Women Nigeria (Private Sector Group)
She holds an Honorary BA Degree in Law and Psychology, Carleton University, Ottawa Canada; BL degree, University of Buckingham UK and an LLM (Law & Development) of the University of London (UCL).
It is in recognition of her accomplishments in Corporate Management that Mrs Doris Okechukwu Mbadiwe was deemed worthy to be conferred with the Nigerian Achievement Award.
