President Bola Tinubu has appointed Dr. Jamila Bio Ibrahim as Nigeria’s Minister of Youth in a nomination awaiting Senate confirmation.
Ayodele Olawande was also tapped as Minister of State for Youth, according to a statement Sunday from presidential spokesperson Ajuri Ngelale.
Ibrahim is a young medical doctor who most recently served as President of the Progressive Young Women’s Forum. She was also a senior aide focused on Sustainable Development Goals in Kwara State.
Olawande brings experience as a community development expert and youth leader in the ruling APC party, having worked in the Office of the Special Adviser on Innovation since 2019.
In announcing the appointments, President Tinubu charged the nominees to reflect the dynamism, innovation and productivity of Nigerian youth as they take on these ministerial duties.
The youth minister portfolio became open after the redeployment of predecessor Abubakar Momoh to head the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs.
If confirmed, Ibrahim and Olawande will be tasked with spearheading youth-focused policies, empowerment initiatives and reforms across Nigeria’s large youth demographic.
