The Nigerian Air Force has announced that several Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorists were neutralized in recent airstrikes targeting the group’s hideouts around Lake Chad in Borno State.
According to an Air Force statement Monday, strikes hit terrorist positions at Tumbun Shitu, Tumbun Fulani, and other Lake Chad areas between September 27-30. The locations were bombed after intelligence confirmed the presence of fighters, equipment and logistics facilities.
Air Force spokesperson Edward Gabkwet said subsequent battlefield assessments revealed the strikes successfully destroyed terrorist structures and gun trucks while inflicting significant casualties among the militants.
The intensive air operations aimed to degrade threats posed by the terrorists to military units and civilians in the region. Troops on the ground have intensified attacks on the insurgents in recent weeks.
While Boko Haram’s 12-year insurgency persists, the Air Force reiterated its commitment to provide air support for surface forces battling to end the militants’ deadly campaign across northeastern Nigeria.
