In a move signaling change, President Bola Tinubu has dismissed the chief executives of three major agencies within the Ministry of Communications, Innovations, and Digital Economy.
The agencies impacted are the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST), and Nigerian Communications Satellite Limited (NIGCOMSAT).
In a statement released Wednesday, presidential spokesman Ajuri Ngelale announced the immediate sackings along with newly appointed leaders for each organization.
Professor Umar Garba Danbatta, Sunday Adepoju, and Tukur Funtua were removed from their roles heading NCC, NIPOST, and NIGCOMSAT respectively.
Danbatta had served as Executive Vice Chairman and CEO of NCC since 2016. His successor is Aminu Maida, who will now lead the telecoms regulator.
For NIPOST, Tola Odeyemi steps in as the new Postmaster General, taking over from Adepoju. At NIGCOMSAT, Nkechi Egerton-Idehen becomes the new Managing Director after Funtua’s dismissal.
The shakeup indicates Tinubu’s intent to overhaul the agencies responsible for Nigeria’s digital infrastructure and transformation initiatives. However, two leaders retained their positions – Kashifu Abdullahi at NITDA and Vincent Olatunji at NDPR.
