The Court of Appeal in Abuja has upheld Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan as the duly elected candidate for the Kogi Central Senatorial District election held earlier this year.
The appellate court dismissed an appeal filed by Abubakar Ohere of the All Progressives Congress (APC), ruling it lacked merit. Ohere had challenged the election tribunal verdict which nullified his victory in the February senatorial poll.
Earlier in September, the Kogi State Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Lokoja had annulled Ohere’s win and declared Akpoti-Uduaghan of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the actual winner of the hotly contested election.
Despite heading to the appeals court seeking a reversal, Ohere failed to overturn the tribunal’s judgment. The Appeal Court affirmed Akpoti-Uduaghan had won the majority votes cast during the election.
