Ibiyinka Olufunke Bamgbelu is a highly resourceful accountant and corporate manager. These past three decades, her impact as a first-rate audit and control specialist has been felt in many high–profile companies.
She has traversed the corporate horizon, working with such firms as Deloitte Adetona Isichei & Co (now Akintola Williams Deloitte Touche), Ernst & Young, Nigerian – German Chemicals Plc (formerly Nigerian Hoechst), Industrial & General Insurance Company Ltd (IGI), Food Concepts Nigeria and Goldbanc Management Associates Ltd. Today, she works as Managing Partner of Adesina Bamgbelu & Co. which is a firm of Chartered Accountants based in Lagos.
Ibiyinka had her early education at St. Catherine’s Model School, Surulere, Lagos. For her secondary school education, she attended New Era Girls Secondary School, Surulere, and Lagos Anglican Girls Grammar School also in Surulere.
She graduated from Lagos State Polytechnic in 1983. She went on to Yaba College of Technology where she earned a Higher National Diploma in Accounting with an Upper Credit in 1986. Ibiyinka Bamgbelu has been a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants since the year 1991. She is also an Associate Member of the Chartered Institute of Taxation.
Her audit experience began with Deloitte Adetona Isichie & Co. where she was involved in and led various audit assignments in banking, manufacturing, trading, finance, insurance, and production.
At Ernst & Young where she worked between 1993 and 1996, she led the biggest audit of the firm which was Mobil Oil Nigeria Plc, meeting all the reporting deadlines.
In 1996, she moved on to set up the Internal Audit Department of Nigerian-German Chemicals Plc (formerly Nigerian Hoechst) and extended the audit to the subsidiary company (Tradelink Company) in Ghana. There she discovered various fraud, thefts, teeming and lading as well as pilferages which were reported, and culprits apprehended and arrested. She was there for five years until 2001.
At Nigerian–German Chemicals Plc, she reviewed all the internal control procedures and tightened and amended them where necessary. She it was who set up the Accounting Department for Tradelink Ghana.
At Industrial & General Insurance Company Ltd (IGI) she was Group Manager of Internal Control & Systems from 2002 to 2005. Among other achievements, she introduced the audit of Controls and Systems. She also introduced auditing through the computer. She carried out an audit of all the subsidiary companies.
In 2005, she was poached by the then Finance Director of Food Concepts (brand owner of Chicken Republic, Butterfield Bread, St Elmos Pizza, Scoops Ice-Cream, and Reeds Restaurant) as Finance Manager of the company.
As Finance Manager, she recovered the sum of N64m excess bank charges for the company. She rose from Finance Manager to Finance Controller and then to General Manager and Chief Operating Officer within the spate of five years in the company. She supervised the Financial Management and Reporting of the company and handled the budgetary process and control. She monitored the company’s budget with analysis and indices and supervised the Treasury Management.
Ibiyinka handled the Ordering and Supply Chain Management of the company with the help of indices (both local and international). She was also involved in Project Management and the setting up of stores and bakeries. She was involved in turning a cost centre (Supply Chain) into a profit centre. She turned a loss-making company into a profitable company which expanded from 5 outlets to 20 outlets within three years.
To expand her knowledge of Financial Advisory Services, she joined Goldbanc Management Associates Limited which is an Issuing House, Finance Adviser, and Funds & Portfolio Manager in 2011. Its principal activities include and are not limited to Financial Advisory Services, Issuing House, Corporate Finance, Funds Management, Structured Finance, Real Estate (Leasing, Rent to Own, Outright Purchase), Assets Financing Solutions, and Portfolio Management. The company is also engaged in other sophisticated financial products amongst others.
She rose from Senior Manager, Finance and Operations to Vice President position. She was in that company till 2018. In 2019, she became the Managing Partner of Adesina Bamgbelu & Co.,a firm of chartered accountants.
It is in recognition of her contribution to national development in the area of Corporate Management that Mrs. Ibiyinka Olufunke Bamgbelu was deemed worthy to be conferred with the Woman of Merit Gold Award which is part of the PSR National Awards.
