Mrs. Olukemi Ogunyemi is the Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Health. She served two terms as Commissioner at the Lagos State Health Service Commission from 2015 to 2023.
Kemi trained as a nurse at the University College Hospital, Ibadan. Afterwards, she studied at the University of Manchester, UK and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Health Services Management.
She went on to earn a Master’s in Health Care Administration from the University of Phoenix in Arizona, USA. She is currently concluding her doctoral studies in Healthcare Administration.
A nurse with a passion for Cancer care, leadership and management in the health sector, she has worked hard to promote the nursing profession through training and mentoring. Kemi Ogunyemi has held several leadership positions in the UK and US where she holds nursing licenses.
In 2013, she was project lead in the UK where she helped set up the first ever nurse-led chemotherapy unit at the Finchley Memorial Hospital, London where she was the lead cancer nurse. Mrs. Ogunyemi returned to Nigeria in 2014 and worked as the Director of Nursing at the Cardiac Renal Center in Gbagada.
In the private sector, she was a Nurse Consultant/ Director at Marcelle Ruth Cancer Center in Victoria Island, Lagos.
She is the co-founder of Alfo Health Care Initiative, an NGO dedicated to assisting underprivileged women and children to gain access to affordable healthcare.
On the Nigerian political scene, Mrs. Ogunyemi was the Deputy Director of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Committee’s Medical Directorate in the recent electioneering campaigns.
An advocate for women’s inclusion in governance, she is the immediate past chairperson of the Women in Politics arm of Women in Management, Business and Governance (WIMBIZ).
Mrs Ogunyemi has won a lot of recognition on account of her work and service to humanity. In 2011 for instance, she was honoured with the Transformational Leadership Award by Emory University Hospital in the USA.
For pastime, Kemi loves watching football. She is an avid football fan who supports Arsenal. She is married with children and grandchildren.
It is in recognition of her contribution to national development in the sphere of Nursing and Cancer Care that Mrs. Olukemi Ogunyemi was deemed worthy to be conferred with the Woman of Merit Gold Award which is part of the PSR National Awards.
