Governors elected under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will meet with former Rivers State Governor and Minister of Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, today in Abuja.
The meeting comes amidst growing political tensions in Rivers State, after 24 members of the state’s House of Assembly moved to impeach current Governor Siminalayi Fubara earlier this week. The impeachment plot led to protests by Fubara’s supporters at the state assembly complex on Monday.
In a bid to resolve the crisis, the PDP Governors’ Forum under the leadership of Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed has organized today’s reconciliation meeting. The forum had commended President Bola Tinubu for his intervention in the crisis during their meeting at the Oyo State Lodge in Abuja on Tuesday.
According to a statement by the forum’s Director-General Cyril Maduabum, the governors decided to meet Wike for mediation and reconciliation purposes. Maduabum explained that Bala Mohammed has requested all PDP governors to join him at 11am today in the FCT Minister’s office opposite the Rivers State Governor’s Lodge.
