President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday signed the 2023 Supplementary Budget of 2.17 trillion naira into law at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
Last week, after a third reading, the Senate and House of Representatives passed the 2.17 trillion naira 2023 supplementary appropriations bill. Before passing the bill, the Senate adopted the report of the harmonized sittings of both chambers on the 2023 Supplementary Appropriations Bill, as submitted by Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, Chairman of the Appropriations Committee.
Lawmakers in both the upper and lower chambers said the swift passage of the bill was for the benefit of the country.
Earlier, President Tinubu had written to the National Assembly seeking approval of 2.17 trillion naira as the 2023 supplementary budget to address labor wage adjustments, security, and other needs.
The President had also sent the 2024-2026 Medium Term Expenditure Framework and Fiscal Strategy Paper to the National Assembly.
Recently, the Senate passed 819 billion naira, providing 500 billion naira for a palliative package.
President Tinubu said the supplementary bill was necessary for additional palliative measures, including wage awards. On Monday, the Federal Executive Council chaired by the President approved the 2023 supplementary budget of 2.1 trillion naira.
