The federal government of Nigeria has declared public holidays for Christmas and New Year celebrations at the end of December 2023.
According to the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, Monday December 25, Tuesday December 26, 2023, and Monday January 1, 2024, have been approved as public holidays to mark Christmas and New Year’s Day respectively.
In his goodwill message to Christians and all Nigerians, the minister urged citizens to emulate the life of Jesus Christ which exemplified humility, service, compassion and patience.
He noted that peace and security are essential for economic growth and development in Nigeria. The federal government under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu remains committed to implementing effective security measures to protect lives and property, he affirmed.
Dr. Tunji-Ojo advised Nigerians to be security conscious during this festive period and promptly report any suspicious activities or persons to law enforcement agencies. He also stressed the need for discipline by all citizens to ensure safety within their communities and across the nation.
As the country looks forward to a better 2024 anchored on the ‘Renewed Hope’ agenda of the president, the minister encouraged Nigerians to remain optimistic and focused. He wished Christians and all Nigerians at home and abroad happy holidays.
