In a sweeping aviation sector shake-up on Wednesday, President Bola Tinubu replaced five agency heads and suspended the chief regulator to enable a corruption probe.

The moves align with Tinubu’s pledge to bring world-class standards, better protect consumers and reduce industry underperformance. He tasked the new officials with improving service quality as their top priority.

Gone are the managing directors of the Federal Airports Authority (FAAN), Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), Nigerian Meteorological Agency, Safety Investigation Bureau and College of Aviation Technology.

In their place, Tinubu appointed Olubunmi Oluwaseun Kuku (FAAN), Umar Ahmed Farouk (NAMA), Prof. Charles Anosike (Met Agency), Alex Badeh Jr. (Investigation Bureau) and Joseph Shaka Imalighwe (Aviation College).

He also suspended Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) Director-General Capt. Musa Nuhu so the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) can probe alleged wrongdoing. Capt. Chris Najomo becomes NCAA’s acting head.

The clean sweep gives Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development Festus Keyamo a fresh start to address consumer frustrations like flight delays and aging infrastructure.
