MultiChoice Group, a major Pan-African television broadcaster, has settled a tax dispute with Nigerian authorities. MultiChoice subsidiaries MultiChoice Nigeria and MultiChoice Africa Holdings will pay a combined $37.3 million in taxes to Nigeria. This payment settles all outstanding tax claims, including a $1.27 billion corporate tax bill and a $342 million value-added tax claim issued against the companies in 2022.
The tax payment will be adjusted against the security deposits and advance payments MultiChoice had already made to Nigerian authorities. MultiChoice provides satellite TV, streaming, and other entertainment services to over 23.5 million households in 50 markets across sub-Saharan Africa. This settlement with Nigeria’s tax body resolves a major outstanding tax issue for the broadcaster in one of its largest markets.
