Local media in Israel have reported that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is convening with top officials to strategize and prepare for a potential attack by Iran. Tensions have escalated following an airstrike that killed senior Iranian commanders nearly two weeks ago.

US officials, speaking to CBS News, have cautioned that a significant attack on Israel could happen imminently. Concerns are mounting over the possibility of retaliation from Tehran for the airstrike.

Israel has asserted its readiness to respond defensively and offensively to any potential threats. Prime Minister Netanyahu is set to meet with members of his war cabinet, including Defense Minister Yoav Gallant and opposition figure Benny Gantz.

According to US officials, Iran may deploy over 100 drones, dozens of cruise missiles, and potentially ballistic missiles targeting military sites in Israel. While the exact scale of the potential attack remains uncertain, US National Security Council spokesman John Kirby emphasized that the Iranian threat is credible, and Washington is closely monitoring the situation.

President Joe Biden has reaffirmed the United States’ unwavering support for Israel in the event of an Iranian attack. However, mounting tensions have prompted several countries, including the US, UK, India, and Australia, to advise against travel to Israel.

Despite the heightened alert, some Israelis remain resolute. Daniel Kosman, speaking from a market in Jerusalem, expressed confidence, stating, “We are not afraid.” However, authorities have instructed local governments to prepare for the possibility of an attack, including assessing the readiness of public shelters.

The recent airstrike in Syria, believed to have been carried out by Israel, further escalated tensions. Officials fear that an Iranian attack on Israel could spark a broader regional conflict. Efforts to dissuade Iran from launching an attack have involved diplomatic outreach by US Secretary of State Antony Blinken to foreign ministers of key nations.

Meanwhile, Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant emphasized the strengthened bond between Israel and the US during his meeting with the commander of US Central Command. As tensions persist, both countries assert their readiness to respond decisively to any threat.
