The Federal Government has declared Tuesday, October 1st, 2024, as a public holiday to commemorate Nigeria’s 64th Independence Day Anniversary. This announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, who extended his congratulations to Nigerians both at home and abroad on behalf of the government.
In a statement released by the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Magdalene Ajani, Dr. Tunji-Ojo praised the hard work and patience of Nigerian citizens, recognizing their enduring contributions to the country’s progress. “Your sacrifices will not be in vain,” said the minister, acknowledging the perseverance of Nigerians over the years.
Dr. Tunji-Ojo also aligned himself with the theme of this year’s celebration, calling on citizens to reflect on the “labour of our heroes past” and draw inspiration for the future. He emphasized the importance of unity in nation-building, stating, “A Nigeria of our dream can only be built when we unite.”
The minister concluded by wishing all Nigerians a happy Independence Day Anniversary and urging them to remain steadfast in their efforts toward developing the nation.
Nigeria’s Independence Day is marked annually on October 1st, celebrating the country’s freedom from British colonial rule in 1960 and reflecting on its journey toward growth and development over the past six decades.
