The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMET) has forecasted three days of thunderstorms across various regions in Nigeria, with states such as Sokoto, Kebbi, and Borno expected to experience the most severe conditions. The weather outlook, released on Sunday, highlights widespread thunderstorms over parts of Borno, Yobe, Jigawa, Taraba, Adamawa, Gombe, Bauchi, Kano, Katsina, Kaduna, Zamfara, Kebbi, and Sokoto later in the day.
In the morning hours, thunderstorms are predicted over the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Niger, Nasarawa, Benue, Plateau, and Kwara states. The forecast extends into the afternoon and evening, with isolated thunderstorms anticipated across Kwara, the FCT, Niger, Benue, and Kogi.
The southwest region is also set to experience rains in the morning, particularly in Oyo, Ondo, Osun, Ekiti, and Ogun states, with the downpour expected to spread to coastal areas including Lagos, Delta, Rivers, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, and Bayelsa. Later in the day, thunderstorms are predicted for parts of Enugu, Edo, Ebonyi, Ondo, Abia, Osun, Imo, Ekiti, Delta, Bayelsa, Cross River, Rivers, and Lagos.
NiMET warned that residents should avoid flood-prone areas as heavy rainfall could lead to urban flooding in major cities. The agency also urged the public and airline operators to stay updated with weather reports for effective planning.
