The Governor of Sokoto State, Ahmed Aliyu, has established a special committee to sell essential food items to citizens at a 55 percent discounted rate. The initiative, which aims to alleviate the effects of the current economic challenges, was unveiled on Monday during an inauguration event held in the state.
Governor Aliyu emphasized the importance of the program in helping families cope with rising food prices. “In this new approach, the state government procured food items and other essential commodities meant to be sold at a 55% discounted rate to enable families to access the commodities for the well-being of their members,” he stated.
The initiative comes at a critical time, with Nigeria’s food inflation rate standing at 37.52 percent as of August 2024, according to the National Bureau of Statistics.
