The University of Benin (UNIBEN) has appointed Professor Edoba Omoregie, SAN, a distinguished constitutional law expert, as its 11th Vice-Chancellor following a competitive selection process.

The appointment was announced on Friday by Professor Shaibu Umaru, Chairman of the university’s Governing Council. Omoregie emerged victorious from a pool of 27 candidates vying for the prestigious position.

Professor Omoregie, who will succeed the outgoing Vice-Chancellor Professor Lillian Salami when her tenure ends on December 1, brings impressive credentials to the role. A Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) since 2021, he specializes in constitutional law and governance.

The incoming Vice-Chancellor has deep roots with the institution, having completed all three of his degrees at UNIBEN. Born on April 5, 1969, in Benin, Omoregie was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1992 and has built a distinguished career in academia and law.
