Former Minister of Petroleum Diezani Alison-Madueke has filed a motion to amend her suit challenging the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s (EFCC) order for the final forfeiture of her seized assets. The matter was heard by Justice Inyang Ekwo of the Federal High Court, Abuja, on Tuesday.

During the resumed hearing, no counsel appeared for the EFCC. Justice Ekwo inquired whether Alison-Madueke’s counsel had received court processes from the EFCC, to which the lawyer confirmed receipt. The counsel further informed the court of a motion filed to amend their originating processes, which had been duly served to the EFCC.

Justice Ekwo adjourned the case to February 17, 2025, for a hearing on the motion to amend.

Alison-Madueke seeks to extend the time to apply for an order to set aside the EFCC’s public notice announcing a public sale of her seized properties. She argued that she was not given a fair hearing in the proceedings leading to the forfeiture orders.

In response, the EFCC countered her claims, stating that the affidavit submitted by the former minister contained inaccuracies. The commission emphasized that most cases leading to the final forfeiture of the contested assets were duly heard and determined by the court.
