A Russian missile attack struck Ukraine’s Black Sea port city of Odesa on Monday, killing eight people and injuring 39 others, including four children, according to local governor Oleh Kiper. Three of the injured are reported to be in critical condition.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy described the incident as a targeted assault on civilian areas. He stated on Telegram that a Russian ballistic missile hit a residential neighborhood, damaging an apartment complex, a university building, and an administrative facility.
“These are not random strikes – these are deliberate attacks,” Zelenskiy said. “After meetings and false claims of restraint from Putin, Russia is showing its true intentions: war and destruction.”
The attack comes a day after Russia launched its largest missile assault on Ukraine in nearly three months, killing seven people and further crippling the country’s energy infrastructure. Another missile strike in the Sumy region on Sunday hit a residential building, leaving eight people dead, including a child.
