Operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) have arrested two principal suspects allegedly involved in the killing of 16 travellers in Uromi, Esan North-East Local Government Area of Edo State last week.

The Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Friday Ituah, confirmed the arrests in a statement on Tuesday, revealing that the suspects were apprehended in Uromi town following credible intelligence.

Ituah stated that security operatives are intensifying efforts to track down other key suspects involved in the heinous attack. The two arrested individuals have been transferred to Abuja for further interrogation and prosecution.

This follows earlier reports that 14 suspects had already been arrested in connection with the crime and were also being moved to Abuja for further investigation.

Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, visited Kano State on Monday to extend condolences to the families of the victims. During his visit, he reassured them that justice would be served and that those responsible for the brutal killings would face the full wrath of the law.

Governor Okpebholo also pledged that the families of the victims would receive adequate compensation, emphasizing his administration’s commitment to ensuring security and protecting the lives of citizens.

The Edo State government, in collaboration with security agencies, has vowed to intensify the manhunt for the remaining perpetrators, ensuring that such tragic incidents do not recur.
