The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has confirmed that the arrest of social media influencer Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, was based on multiple petitions alleging cyberstalking.
EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale told BBC News Pidgin on Monday that the influencer was taken into custody to respond to complaints from various individuals.
“We arrested him to respond to a series of allegations raised against him by some petitioners,” Oyewale said. “We will release him when he meets the bail conditions, and we will take the case to court as soon as possible. We are law-abiding.”
Oyewale also clarified that the arrest had no connection to Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank), noting that the EFCC was acting on behalf of the complainants and fulfilling its duty of protection.
The commission has indicated that it plans to formally arraign VeryDarkMan in court.
