President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will today receive Nigeria’s Super Falcons at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, following their historic 3–2 comeback victory over Morocco to clinch the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title for a record 10th time.

The team is expected to arrive at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport around midday before proceeding on a trophy parade through major parts of the capital city. The parade route includes Airport Road, Berger Junction, Maitama, and Wuse Market, culminating at the State House, where the President will formally host them.

According to the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), the trophy parade is intended to give Nigerians the opportunity to celebrate the champions and witness the AFCON trophy firsthand.

President Tinubu, who had earlier spoken with the players via video call after the final in Rabat, praised their determination and team spirit. He assured them of the government’s full support and pledged to honour the team for making the country proud.

“All of you have made the nation very proud,” Tinubu told the squad during the call, commending their resilience and unity. He also directed that all outstanding bonuses and allowances be paid before their return to Nigeria — a promise which, according to officials, has been fulfilled.

Team captain Rasheedat Ajibade expressed appreciation for the President’s gesture and said the team was proud to bring the trophy home to millions of Nigerians.

The Super Falcons’ latest win adds to their legacy as Africa’s most successful women’s national football team, with previous titles won in 1998, 2000, 2002, 2004, 2006, 2010, 2014, 2016, and 2018.
