Dr. Esther Omono Uzamere is a highly cerebral and resourceful dentist and orthodontist. Based in the Nigerian Federal Capital of Abuja, she has over a decade of experience in dental practice and more than seven years in orthodontics,
An award-winning specialist, she has transformed the smiles and improved the quality of life of over 500 individuals from diverse backgrounds. Her goal is to significantly contribute to the advancement of dental health in Nigeria.
Esther Uzamere holds a Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) which she earned at the University of Benin in 2009 and a Fellowship in Orthodontics from the West Africa College of Surgeons at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital, (2020). She also possesses certifications in Project Management from the University of Washington (2021) and Invisalign from AlignTech (2022).
As a Specialist Orthodontist, she has served at Summit Dental Clinic in Abuja since July 2021 and Rainbow Dental Clinic in Benin City since September 2017. Prior to that, she practised at Dazzle Dental Clinic and Amana Dental Clinic both in Abuja from 2020 to 2023. Her responsibilities include orthodontic evaluations for diagnosis and management, employing a patient-centred approach to foster healthier, more confident smiles and assessing needs for corporate clients such as BHC, NUPRC and the US Embassy.
Concurrently, as an Adjunct Lecturer at the University of Benin since September 2021, she teaches final-year dental undergraduates, presenting course material engagingly and assessing comprehension through structured tests and examinations.
Earlier, as Chief Resident and Senior Registrar in the Department of Preventive Dentistry at UBTH from April 2018 to October 2020, she managed over 100 orthodontic patients using various treatment options. She also provided clinical training and supervision to residents, house officers, and students. She organized departmental seminars and tutorials and also oversaw orthodontic material reporting to hospital management.
From November 2015 to March 2018 as Senior Registrar, she handled patient management under consultant supervision, assisted in training, and conducted journal reviews and seminars. As Registrar from March 2013 to October 2015, she delivered preventive and corrective dental services, created oral health awareness through community visits, diagnosed and planned treatments, and supervised junior colleagues and students.
Her prior roles include Dental Officer at UBTH’s Dental Centre from March 2012 to February 2013 and Youth Corps Member at NNPC Medical Centre in Benin from October 2010 to October 2011.
Dr. Uzamere excels in interpreting orthodontic diagnostic records like photographs, study casts, radiographs, and CBCT for comprehensive treatment plans; applying fixed appliances (metal, ceramic, gold braces), functional and removable appliances; using clear aligners as a certified Invisalign provider; and collaborating with cosmetic dentists and interdisciplinary teams.
She is a Fellow of the West Africa College of Surgeons, a member of the Nigerian Association of Orthodontists, an international member of the American Association of Orthodontists and World Federation of Orthodontists, Ex-Officio II of the Nigeria Dental Association (2019/2020) and former Vice Chairman of its Edo chapter (2013/2014). She is also and a member of the Nigerian Medical Association, International Association for Dental Research, and Medical Women Association of Nigeria.
Her accolades include the Invisalign Best Orthodontic Practice Award (Nigeria) in 2024, IADR Cariology Research Group 2015 Travel Award in Boston, USA, Award of Recognition from the 2011 Corps Medical Team, Best Graduating Student in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (2009) and Best Overall Dental Student in Medicine and Surgery (2008) from the University of Benin, poster presentation at IADR in San Francisco (2017), oral presentations at IADR/AMER in Boston (2015) and the Nigerian Association of Orthodontists’ 11th Scientific Conference in Ife (2017).
Indeed, Dr. Uzamere has a deep passion for dentistry and oral health. Her efforts focus on innovative orthodontic treatments, patient education, community outreach, and professional training to enhance smiles and well-being across Nigeria. Her unwavering dedication inspires transformative change in the dental sector.
It was in recognition of her accomplishments and contribution to national development in the sphere of Dentistry and Oral Health that Dr. Esther Omono Uzamere was deemed worthy to be conferred with the Woman of Merit Gold Award.
