Dr. Olabisi Aderonke Akinwande is a distinguished physiotherapist. Currently serving as the Head of Unit for Women’s Health Physiotherapy and Deputy Director of Physiotherapy Services at the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, she is reshaping women’s health through evidence-based, technology-driven solutions which empower women to embrace physical activity and take charge of their well-being.
She holds a doctorate degree in Exercise Physiology from the Department of Human Kinetics, University of Ibadan. Her doctoral thesis earned the Best PhD Dissertation of the Year award, highlighting the innovative and real-world impact of her work. Her research explores the relationship between physical activity and women’s health, particularly among underserved populations, using telemedicine and digital health tools to overcome sociocultural, economic, and systemic barriers to active lifestyles.
Dr. Akinwande’s global influence shone at the World Physiotherapy Congress 2025 in Japan, where she received the Outstanding Poster Presentation Award (Runner-Up) from the African Region. She collaborates with interdisciplinary teams across clinical, academic, and community settings to co-create inclusive, gender-sensitive interventions that elevate women’s health outcomes and build capacity among young physiotherapists and researchers.
Dr. Akinwande’s passion for physiotherapy and medical rehabilitation services is immeasurable. Her efforts focus on advancing research, improving accessibility to care, and empowering women and communities through innovative health practices in Nigeria. Her unwavering dedication inspires transformative change in the field.
Beyond her professional achievements, she serves as Chairperson of the Parents Teachers Association of The Vale College Ibadan and a member of its Board of Governors. Her philanthropy includes donations to orphanage homes, scholarships for less privileged students, and employment opportunities. An ordained minister in the Redeemed Christian Church of God with a PGD in Theology, she leads youth initiatives in her parish. As CEO of Triple Dees Global Integrated Ltd., she showcases entrepreneurial spirit. She is also a proud wife to Engr. Bola Akinwande and mother to three inspiring daughters.
It was in recognition of her accomplishments and contribution to national development in the sphere of Physiotherapy and Medical Rehabilitation Services that Dr. Olabisi Aderonke Akinwande was deemed worthy to be conferred with the Woman of Merit Gold Award.
