The Police Service Commission (PSC) has announced the commencement of recruitment for 50,000 police constables into the Nigeria Police Force, a major step in the nationwide manpower expansion recently approved by President Bola Tinubu.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the PSC said the exercise—conducted in collaboration with the Nigeria Police—will begin next week and will be anchored on transparency, merit, and fairness. The commission described the mass recruitment as a critical effort toward strengthening Nigeria’s internal security architecture and rebuilding public confidence in law enforcement.
According to the commission, the process is open to applicants under two categories: General Duty and Specialists.
For the General Duty cadre, applicants must be Nigerian citizens by birth, aged between 18 and 25, and must possess a minimum of five credits in WASSCE, NECO, or GCE—including English and Mathematics—obtained in no more than two sittings. Applicants must also meet the physical requirements, including a minimum height of 1.67 metres for men and 1.64 metres for women.
The Specialist cadre includes roles such as drivers, mechanics, and medical aides. Applicants must possess at least four credits in relevant subjects, hold a Trade Test certificate, and present evidence of at least three years of work experience. The age limit for this category is 28.
The PSC said the application portal will open on Monday, December 15, and close on January 25, 2026. All applications must be submitted online, with candidates required to upload original documents and print out an acknowledgment slip.
The commission cautioned the public against fraudsters and emphasised that the recruitment process is free at all stages. It added that all shortlisted candidates will be notified only through official PSC and police communication channels.
