The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has denied reports making the rounds that its Governor, Mr. Godwin Emefiele has been removed from office by President Muhammadu Buhari.
Responding to the reports, CBN’s Director of Corporate Communications, Mr. Isaac Okorafor told reporters that Emefiele’s rumoured removal was nothing but pure fabrication.
Emefiele was appointed into the position of the CBN Governor from Zenith Bank in 2014 by former President Goodluck Jonathan and his tenure is expected to expire in June this year.
According to some speculations, two people of northern extraction, including current Deputy Governor, Financial Systems Stability of the apex financial institution, Mrs. Aisha Ahmad had been penciled down to replace Emefiele.
