The National Examinations Council (NECO) has announced the results for the 2022 Senior Secondary School Certificate Exams. 61.6% of candidates achieved the minimum of 5 credits including English and Math, representing a record performance.
NECO registrar Dantani Wushishi disclosed that over 1.19 million students sat the exams, including 1,542 with special needs across disability categories.
However, 93 schools were implicated in mass cheating and 52 supervisors blacklisted for compromising the exams. The schools now face sanctions following investigations.
Overall, 61.6% of students managed the crucial five credits pass mark. When English and Math are excluded, the percentage rises to 84.68% attaining at least five credits in various subjects.
Wushishi lauded the record 61.6% pass of the mandatory benchmark, noting both incremental and exponential improvements in recent years. He attributed the progress to upgraded teaching and learning.
With more students achieving university eligibility requirements, NECO aims to build on successes and introduce technology enhancements to further prevent malpractice and uphold integrity.
