The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially announced November 6, 2025, as the date for the upcoming off-cycle governorship election in Anambra state, in accordance with the Electoral Act 2022.

The announcement was made during a meeting with political party leaders on Thursday, where INEC Chairman Prof. Mahmood Yakubu outlined key dates and deadlines for the electoral process. According to the timeline, the formal election notice will be published on November 13, 2024.

Political parties are expected to conduct their primaries between March 20 and April 10, 2025. The candidate nomination portal will be operational from 9:00 am on April 18 until 6:00 pm on May 12, 2025. The final list of candidates will be published on June 9, 2025, with public campaigns running from June 11 to November 6, 2025.

“We urge political parties to align their schedules with INEC’s timetable to ensure better coordination in the deployment of personnel and resources for monitoring party primaries and campaign activities,” Prof. Yakubu stated during the announcement.

The Commission also plans to release additional details regarding other electoral activities, including:
– New voter registration
– Voter transfer procedures
– Replacement of lost or damaged PVCs

In related developments, Prof. Yakubu provided updates on the upcoming Ondo State Governorship election, noting that 10 out of 13 planned activities have been completed. The Commission has also commenced PVC collection in Ondo State, which will run from October 17-21, 2024, at 203 ward locations, followed by a week-long collection period at local government offices.

The comprehensive timetable and schedule of activities for the 2025 Anambra State Governorship election will be made available on INEC’s official website and social media platforms, with hard copies distributed to stakeholders.
